memories of the Titanic DVD Titanic - The Exhibition in Orlando, Florida, commissioned him to create a Titanic in 1/48th scale as this is the same dimension as the builders' models. Until then Peter built models at home; but for this particular Titanic he needed a large workshop. Fortunately, a large, airy place was found within five minutes bicycling distance from his home. Then construction began in earnest. The hull frames were attached to a keel-plate and the spaces between the frames were filled with wooden strips -- the hull was approximately 18 feet long! (Peter's finished model can be seen at Titanic- The Exhibition.)

The sinking of the Titanic has been the subject of several books and films, including the Hollywood blockbuster, Titanic (1998). It was not until September 1985 that the actual wreck was found resting under about 3,800 m (about 12,000 ft) of water. The area was photographed by a joint French-United States expedition through the use of robot submersibles equipped with television cameras (see Deep-Sea Exploration, Submersible Craft). In July 1986 the U.S. researchers, led by American deep-sea explorer Robert Ballard, explored the Titanic in the three-person Alvin submersible; they took pictures of the interior, but recovered no artifacts. The following year a controversial French salvage effort retrieved dishes, jewels, currency, and other artifacts, which were exhibited in Paris in September 1987 and in Hamburg in 1997. In August 1998 a substantial section of the ship’s outer hull was recovered from the sea floor.

The Science Center has worked closely with G. Michael Harris, the President of Titanic – The Experience, and his team to adapt the attraction for its audience. In addition to presenting the historical elements of Titanic, the exhibit will emphasize ocean exploration. Harris is the son of acclaimed documentary filmmaker and explorer, D. Michael Harris, who led the first three expeditions in search of Titanic during the early 1980's. Harris himself has spent the last 25 years cultivating his research, knowledge and exploration of Titanic. He led the largest expedition to the wreck site to date, making more than 8 dives at a depth of over 12,500 feet.
A Lindsay native's personal belongings lost at sea are one of the main focal points of a Titanic Exhibit currently on display in Toronto. The irony is that although Harold Irwin's luggage was on board the Titanic, he wasn't. In 1910 Irwin decided to leave town and set out on a journey to discover the world with his good friend, Henry Sutehall. The young men hitched rides, stowed away in boxcars and even met a few of the era's most notorious people, such as author Jack London, communist Vladimir Lenin and India's spiritual leader Mahatma Gandhi. In 1912 they were ready to return home, so they purchased two third-class boarding passes for the maiden voyage of the Titanic. The night before the Titanic set sail Irwin was kidnapped after cheating in a poker game.
RMST takes very seriously its role as sole Salvor-in-Possession and lien holder of the artifacts recovered to date from the Titanic. RMST sought to take all actions necessary to make sure that the existing artifacts before the Court, the approximately 1800 artifacts for which it was already awarded an in specie award by the French tribunal, and any artifacts which may be recovered in the future are kept together as one collection. Thus, it took steps to solidify its role as curator of the collections and remove any possibility of competing claims by entering into the Liverpool and London agreement. Premier Exhibitions wishes to assure the public that RMST's motives and efforts to date are consistent both with its duty to maintain, protect and preserve the artifacts and with its shareholders' interests.
