Ear or Sinus Infections - Sinus infections can cause temporary or permanent Tinnitus. Depending on how severe the infection please read the labels on over the counter medications because some of them list Tinnitus as a side effect.

Many medications have been tried to relieve tinnitus with varying degrees of success. Tricyclic antidepressants, such as amitriptyline and nortriptyline, have been used with some success, but these medications have troublesome side effects, such as dry mouth, blurred vision and constipation.

Many medications can cause tinnitus. Generally this is thought to arise from their effect on the cochlea (ear). The following is a list of some common medications that may contribute to tinnitus:
A wide range of medications – including anti-anxiety drugs, antidepressants, antihistamines, anticonvulsants and anesthetics – have been used with varying degrees of success to help control tinnitus. (Ironically, some of these same drugs can cause tinnitus in certain people.) Patients may have to experiment with several drugs or drug combinations before finding the therapy that works best for them.
Some medications can make tinnitus worse. Tell all of your physicians—not just your ear, nose, and throat doctor—about all prescription and over the counter medications you are currently taking or have recently taken.
