The magazine's most famous feature over its 80 years has been the annual Man of the Year cover story, in which Time recognizes the individual or group of individuals who have had the biggest effect on the year's news. In 1999, this feature was renamed "Person of the Year." Despite the title, the recipient is not necessarily an individual -- in 2003, it was "the American soldier" -- or even a human. In 1982, the home computer was recognized as "machine of the year".

Since 1927, TIME editors have named a "Person of the Year" on the cover of a special issue of the magazine. The title is given to the person who, "for better or worse," the magazine's editors believe had the greatest impact on the year's events. Though the magazine called the issue "Man of the Year" until 2000, the first "Woman of the Year" (Wallis Simpson) appeared on the cover in 1936. In 2005, Time named Bono and Bill and Melinda Gates as its 78th "Persons of the Year."

Pruett is the second acclaimed professor to criticize Dobson’s use of their work in TIME Magazine. New York University professor Dr. Carol Gilligan ... appeared in a Truth Wins Out video saying she was “mortified” by the manner in which Dobson’s cited her findings. Both Pruett and Gilligan wrote letters to Dobson to express their concerns. So far, Dobson has ignored personally responding to their letters and refused to engage in a direct dialogue with the professors.

Time magazine has once again failed to find any one person that it can name "Person of the Year." So it decides to cop out and name everyone the person of the year. From the results, you can tell that the editors feel a general disdain for what they must increasingly believe to be a public of dummies.
