Time Clock: Employees
built 291 days ago
Unless a department is utilizing a system with an automatic lunch deduction, employees must clock out for their designated lunch time. All employees are free to leave the university premises during lunch.

In addition to regular time clock functions, employees can submit vacation and sick leave requests. An admin preference allows either automatic approval of such requests or required approval by the payroll administrator.

: Upon logging in to the system, if the employee is not clocked in, he/she will be automatically redirected to the time clock screen. No interaction with the system is permitted until the employee is clocked in.

It isn't always practical or appropriate for employees to punch in and out using physical time clock devices. That’s why organizations turn to Employee Self Service systems. This lets workers access time cards, punch and transfer using a web browser or a conveniently located employee kiosk – putting key information in the hands of today’s mobile workforce.

All time clocks have a degree of security built into them. Manual punch card time clocks have one level of security, by requiring a key to change the setup. This prevents inaccurate manipulation of time worked. If you want another level of security, you may want to consider digital time clocks. Because digital time clocks are paperless, employees are unable to manipulate a time card.

The 65-year-old Fair Labor Standards Act, which established the 40-hour workweek as a national norm, did so largely by requiring companies to pay employees at least time-and-a-half when workers clocked more than 40 weekly hours. The law protected production and nonsupervisory workers, not managers or professionals. With the subsequent decline in manufacturing jobs, the percentage of workers eligible for overtime pay has dropped.
