Click here for the Cabo Vacation Experts! Tijuana is a big place. a place to slow down and get your bearings together. Probably one of the best places to get started in T.J. is the parking lot on the east side of Avenida Revolucion mid block. Parking here is secure, and puts you right in the middle of the action! Shopping, dining and the general excitement of downtown Tijuana are at your finger tips once you park here.

Tijuana is an industrial park on the outskirts of Minneapolis. Tijuana is a colony of Tokyo. Tijuana is a Taiwanese sweatshop. Tijuana is here. It has arrived. Silent as a Trojan horse, inevitable as a flotilla of boat people, more confounding in its innocence, in its power of proclamation, than Spielberg's most pious vision of a flying saucer.
Tijuana has many of the transportation options you would expect from a large metropolitan city (except subways). Most services are fairly efficient, but patience is sometimes required. For Baja travelers who commute the toll road from Tijuana to Ensenada on a regular basis the Mexican Government has established the IAVE FREEWAY EXPRESS. Members can fly through the various toll booth areas without getting stuck in line at the toll booths. A special lane accomodates IAVE members!

Walk to USA sign in Tijuana Tijuana has a reputation for crime. While Tijuana does have a high crime rate, its murder rate is lower than some American cities such as Baltimore, St. Louis, Detroit, and Washington D.C. As with any large city with a bustling downtown, use common-sense and street smarts when walking the street; especially in the red light district of the "Zona Norte" (North Zone). Avenida Revolucion is generally safe, and Playas de Tijuana is ... relatively safe. The biggest problem you might experience is trouble-making American men who stumble out of bars and brothels (so-called massage parlors). Avoid alcohol and intoxication.

Tijuana has plenty of hotels but only a handful that offer first class accommodations. The best of the best is CAMINO REAL TIJUANA located about 10 minutes south of the international border right in the heart of Tijuana. The views from the upper floors are the best in town and even include views of San Diego to the north. Golfers ... like the adjacent golf course. There are several excellent restaurants in Tijuana including VILLA SAVERIOS RESTAURANT and LA DIFERENCIA RESTAURANT, both located in the Zona Rio section of town. Both offer international cuisine and regional favorites.

Tijuana's surface street system is barely adequate to meet present needs. Approximately 50 percent of the paved streets are in poor repair and many newer residential and other areas lack paving, contributing significantly to the regional air pollution through production of dust. Lack of adequate peripheral belt routes around the city, overpasses at busy intersections, and bridges across the channelized Tijuana River contribute to congestion. Extremely heavy truck traffic linked to the maquiladora industry and international trade has contributed to the deterioration of the roads, congestion, and has weakened one key bridge.
