Woods, in turn, sought to distance himself from the people who wanted to pigeonhole him. He did not want to assume the role of a crusader. Again and again he pointed out to the press that he was not only African American but ... part Thai, part Chinese, and part Indian. On applications requesting ethnic identity, he described himself as Asian.

Needing three players to make bogey with one hole to go to get into a playoff, Tiger Woods decided that he didn’t want to stick around for an extra day all for the grand prize of finishing in third place. Tiger started Sunday in the final group, two shots behind then leader, Aaron Baddeley. To say Baddeley played poorly on Sunday would not only be a terrible pun, but ... a huge understatement. The man who had the best putting average of the field going into Sunday suddenly could not sink anything and finished with a 10-over par 80 for his final round.
