Thomas Edison: United States
built 202 days ago
Likewise, a color poster of six accomplished figures from history, including Andersen, Churchill, Thomas Edison and Einstein, highlights them as people who had learning disabilities and managed to succeed. Created almost 20 years ago by the Hill School in Fort Worth, the poster has gone into its third printing and is hanging in 41 states and 13 countries. Lucille Helton, the school’s former principal, says a committee, looking for famous figures to inspire children, found the information in the local library.
Consolidated Edison Today, Con Edison will end 125 years of direct current electricity service that began when Thomas Edison opened his Pearl Street power station on Sept. 4, 1882. Con Ed will now only provide alternating current, in a final, vestigial triumph by Nikola Tesla and George Westinghouse, Mr. Edison’s rivals who were the main proponents of alternating current in the AC/DC debates of the turn of the 20th century.
Thomas Alva Edison died a short time later on October 21, 1931 at age 84. He was buried under an oak tree in Glenmont. The United States were so sad, they turned off their power for one minute and prayed throughout the whole United States for a tribute to Thomas Alva Edison.

At the end of 1862 a series of events would propel Thomas Edison into his career. While visiting the Mount Clemens railroad depot, Edison saved the young son of the stationmaster James MacKenzie from the path of a rolling freight car. Mr. MacKenzie, out of gratitude, taught Edison railroad telegraphy. Telegraphy was held in high esteem by many Americans - it was the technology of the time an greatly appealed to Thomas.
