Thomas Edison State College provides flexible, high-quality, collegiate learning opportunities for self-directed adults. One of New Jersey’s 12 senior public institutions of higher education, the College offers 15 associate, baccalaureate and master’s degrees in more than 100 areas of study. Students earn degrees through a variety of rigorous academic methods, including completing independent study courses and documenting college-level knowledge they already have. Identified by Forbes magazine as one of the top 20 colleges and universities in the nation in the use of technology to create learning opportunities for adults, Thomas Edison State College is a national leader in the assessment of adult learning and a pioneer in the use of educational technologies. Originally founded in 1972 to serve the needs of adult students exclusively, Thomas Edison State College began offering an online graduate degree program in 1996.

Extravagant displays of electric lights quickly became a feature of public events, as this picture from the 1897 Tennessee Centennial Exposition shows. Many tributes have been made to Thomas Edison. Several places and objects have been named after him, including the town of Edison, New Jersey, and Thomas Edison State College, a nationally-known college for adult learners in Trenton, New Jersey. There is a Thomas Alva Edison Memorial Tower and Museum in the town of Edison. In the Netherlands, major music awards are named after him. The City Hotel, in Sunbury, Pennsylvania, was the first building to be lit with Edison's three-wire system. The hotel was renamed The Hotel Edison, and retains that name today.
The online paralegal certificate offered at Thomas Edison State College (TESC) contains seven courses with a cost of about $3,920, says William J. Mulkeen JD, paralegal program director. That's about $1,000 less than the brick-and-mortar paralegal certificate offered at Long Island University (LIU). According to Nick Macdonald, assistant dean of LIU's School of Continuing Studies, the cost to LUI students is $4,900 for 328 hours of coursework, which typically equates to an evening program of three hours per night, four nights each week lasting about seven months.
