The mission of Get Animated is to empower kids to take action that positively impacts their own lives and the lives of other kids. Get Animated is a multiyear, multimillion-dollar campaign that is integrated into Cartoon Network's programming, events, and promotions. Through the power of the Cartoon Network brand and Cartoon Network's partnerships with national nonprofit organizations like PTA, Get Animated comprises programs such as Rescuing Recess, Animate Your World, the Get Animated Tour, Kids Help Out, and Trick or Treat for UNICEF.

   When Cartoon Network still ran its CGI city look (see 2004-2006), a promo aired involving the Mayor of Townsville officially opening the Animation Station, a fictional recreational dome facility. Thus began Cartoon Network's still-running Get Animated promotion, a campaign encouraging children to get active, more importantly in outdoor areas. Created in part of the American government's goal for a more active, and generally healthier generation, other kids' channels generally aired similar promotions during this time (such as Nickelodeon's Go Healthy Challenge). Original promos involved many different cartoon characters, and real kids, enjoying physical activities inside the Animation Station. Once Cartoon Network scrapped their CGI city look the Animation Station promos were abandoned, but the Get Animated campaign still continued. Current promos still show cartoon characters playing alongside kids, though occasional sports celebrities (such as Freddie Adu) make appearances.

   Due to popular demand, the Cartoon Art Museum is offering another installment in its ongoing series of workshops for aspiring comic artists, writers and fans of all ages. Each class is taught by a professional cartoonist focusing on an area of his or her expertise, ranging from character creation and story development to writing and drawing comic books and strips.

    The fourth edition of ‘Cartooning’ took place in Brussels to coincide with World Press Freedom day (3 May). The event was hosted by the United Nations Regional Information Centre for Western Europe (UNRIC) and the Belgian Center for Comic-Strip Art (Centre Belge de la Bande Dessinée).
