Theology: Students
built 185 days ago
Immaculate Conception Seminary School of Theology (ICSST) is the school of theology of Seton Hall University and the major seminary of the Catholic Archdiocese of Newark. ICSST admits both seminarians studying for the Catholic priesthood and lay students.
Theology schools are perfect for working professionals looking for learning experiences related to world issues and commitments. Accredited schools for theology offer courses that will prepare students for the challenges of working in theology fields.
This program is designed to accommodate the growing number of students who are majoring in a discipline other than Theology but whose interest in religious and theological questions leads them to take a number of courses offered in the Theology curriculum. Such students will be able to take a programmed sequence of courses that will lead to the designation co-major in Theology.
The study of Theology offers much to all kinds of students, even those who have no prior formal religious belief or training. Theology by its very nature touches upon many related academic disciplines: philosophy, history, languages, sociology, anthropology and involves the ability to think critically about important issues and to express clearly one's thoughts about them.

The courses for the MA degree in theology are offered in three different formats. There are several week-long modules offered each year, typical of adult studies programs. Students are expected to do preliminary reading and study before the week of classroom instruction for a module. That week begins on Monday afternoon, includes all day on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, and concludes by noon on Friday. Follow-up written assignments for research and reflection are then due a month after the week of classes.

The second-level courses all focus on the themes of revelation, the theology of the human person, relationships between the believing community and the wider culture, and worship and spirituality. On this level, courses differ from each other on the basis of particular theological areas of inquiry and are tied together through the four themes. Students will have the opportunity to deepen and expand in content and skill, the theological literacy developed on the first level. In addition, they do so in view of the new methodological achievements of the modern period.
