WASHINGTON, Aug. 25 /PRNewswire/ -- "Shaping Our Future" is the theme of America's Community Bankers' 2003 Annual Convention, Oct. 19-22, at the Paris Las Vegas Hotel. The conference will focus on major issues facing community bankers today, including leadership challenges, bottom-line business solutions, innovations in technology, new marketing strategies and changes in legislation and regulation.More than 2,000 bankers, directors, spouses and exhibitors are expected to attend the convention, one of the largest gatherings of community bank executives in the country.Bankers will hear from FDIC Chairman Donald Powell; Office of Thrift Supervision Director James Gilleran; Federal Reserve Board Gov. The build is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 18, the day before the convention officially opens. At ACB's 2002 convention, members helped build a Habitat condominium in San Francisco.A one-day Directors' Forum, focusing on challenges facing trustees and directors of community banks, is scheduled for Oct. 19. The forum will be presented by ACB with the National Association of Corporate Directors.ACB's highly regarded business show, the Market Expo, will feature well over 100 exhibitors, featuring a full array of products and services for financial institutions. The innovative interpretations of the theme, Technology, showcased students' varied creative talents. Ms. Halliday designed the Local Loop, an Internet cafe featuring an innovative, multi-level interior with a domed circular ceiling with fiber optics, computers and ample Internet access. Ms. Koerber designed and constructed a white, futuristic, vinyl dress with a circular skirt and collar embellished with a collage of science-based technology images. Ms. Martin designed retail commercial space that offers consumers an interactive environment of touch screen computers, digital photography, and self activated color sensors to enhance apparel selection and purchasing. Ms. Merlihan developed a trend forecast plan for a line of women's apparel entitled, Cinderbella. The product line incorporates advanced fabric technology to provide glamour, style and performance to an array of apparel items used for household cleaning.

"Cypress Gardens Adventure Park in Winter Haven [FL] is looking for a few good men and women to finish staffing the state's oldest theme park before it reopens next month. For the four-day job fair, the park's human resources officials are interviewing on specific days for specific positions. On Oct. 20, they are hiring ride operators, groundskeepers and animal care specialists for the live animal exhibits. On Oct. 21, interviews for food service staff from cashiers to cooks will be held. Oct. 22 is the day for applicants for retail, guest services, cashiers, warehouse, games and cash control positions to apply. And on Oct. 23, all positions will be available for applicants."

While showing some hard news stories, the focus of the show is often entertainment, scandals, gossip and exploitative tabloid journalism. It was popular during the 1990s when magazine-type news shows were common during daytime television. Its main competitors were Hard Copy and Inside Edition, along with the many talk shows that dominated daytime TV during the 1990s.
