Critical Mass Award - 11/12/98 Some comments about The Vikings by Arne Emil Christensen who is Professor, Dr. Phil. at the University Museum of National Antiquities in Oslo. He specializes on shipbuilding history and craftsmanship in the Iron Age and the Viking period.
The Vikings was shot in Norway by the great cinematographer Jack Cardiff. Cardiff, as those in the know will attest, was a mighty god with a camera. Parts of this movie are suffused with a kind of primal [L]ux aeterna that channels the dark ages in a way that most epics of the day could only dream about. The film is jawdroppingly beautiful to look at. Of course, Cardiff gets most of the credit for the film, which is deceptive. If the photography were the end all of the film, you would have a glacial art film. And that's NOT this film.
billion_dollars-720856.jpg The connection with the Vikings is defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier. Frazier coached Williams in Cincinnati from 2003-2004. Williams started 13 games before ending the year on injured reserve with a quad injury. Williams had 74 tackles (58 solo) with two interceptions, two sacks, one fumble recovery and one forced fumble. Williams is a unrestricted free agent.
From the beginnning Nordic vikings established on small islands as The Shetland islands, and Isle of Man. For some years they robbed churches and killed people, noncaring about sex or age. But in the years 800 - 830 they started to make raides agains the coast of France instead. 840 the Danish vikings went back to Ireland. A chief called Turgeis founded Dublin and turned it to his headquarter. But he kept on robbing the Irish people so they killed him and the Norweigan vikings took over. They could keep the power untill 901 when the Irish people sent them away.
There is little mention in the sources regarding lesbianism in the Viking Age. When the feminine form of the word argr, (org), is used about a woman, it does not indicate that she is homosexual, but rather lecherous or immodest. (Sørenson 18). Staðarhólsbók, one of the existing versions of Grágás, prohibits a woman from wearing male clothing, from cutting her hair like a man, bearing arms, or in general behaving like a man (chs 155 and 254)... it does not mention behaving sexually in the male role. After the onset of Christianity, of course, lovemaking between women was condemned by the Church as mentioned above. During the Viking Age, however, women were in short supply, at least in Iceland.

The Lost Vikings II contains several references to Blizzard's other games. In the "Dark Ages" period of time, Erik the Swift accidentally gets teleported to the "Swamps of Sorrow", which is a prominent location in the game Warcraft: Orcs and Humans (this region was later seen as a ladder map in Warcraft III and as a zone in World of Warcraft). Also, one of TomatorĂ¢€™s monitors shows Rock 'N' Roll Racing playing.
