   Starring as series lead Tony Soprano, James Gandolfini began acting in New York Theater and made his Broadway debut in 1992 alongside Alec Baldwin and Jessica Lange in "A Streetcar Named Desire." A New Jersey native, Gandolfini has more than 20 movies to his credit and has appeared in "The Mexican," "Eight Millimeter," "A Civil Action," "Get Shorty" and "True Romance."    Edie Falco is going from a gangster's wife on HBO to a New York nurse on Showtime. According to Variety, the former Carmela Soprano has signed on to a new untitled Showtime program. The program will star Falco as a New York City nurse trying to balance working in an inner-city hospital and a tumultuous personal life ....
4. Joe Pantoliano -- Sopranos
   Joe Pantoliano, alias Joey Pants, alias Wacko Capo Ralph Cifaretto, the breakout character on “The Sopranos” last season, is a tad miffed right now. He’s twisting in his seat, straining forward, and all but in my face, the veins in his neck beginning to bubble up and sharpening the tone of that unmistakable nasal, Jersey-thick, Italian street kid voice into something along the lines of an ice pick.
5. Polly Bergen -- Tony Soprano
   Tony winner Karen Ziemba (Contact) and Tony nominee Polly Bergen (Follies) may soon share a stage together. The two actresses are collaborating on a new musical, titled Little Shows, and penned by Deborah Grace Winer, a source close to the project told Playbill On-Line.
6. Cecilia Bartoli -- Mezzo-Soprano Cecilia Bartoli
   Mezzo-soprano Cecilia Bartoli was among the most popular figures in contemporary opera, wowing audiences and critics alike with her rich, gentle vocals and expressive three-and-a-half octave range. A native of Rome born June 4, 1966, Bartoli was the daughter of opera singers, and her mother, Silvana Bazzoni, was her first and only vocal instructor. She made her professional debut at age nine, and at 19 rocketed to fame in the wake of a star-making Italian television appearance opposite soprano Katia Ricciarelli and baritone Leo Nucci. A subsequent Parisian performance caught the attention of the famed conductor Daniel Barenboim, who became one of Bartoli's most vocal supporters; a television special filmed for the BBC's South Bank Show introduced her to mainstream audiences, and in the summer of 1990 she made her New York debut at the Mostly Mozart festival. Bartoli regularly toured the U.S. in the years to follow, additionally making her Paris debut in 1991 in The Marriage of Figaro followed by her La Scala bow in Le Comte Ory. She returned to New York in the spring of 1996 to make her Metropolitan Opera debut in Cosi Fan Tutte.

9. Claire Bloom -- Temple Square

10. New York City Tour -- New Jersey
    Traffic in New York City roughly follows a hierarchy of precedence, which is unwise to challenge. Fire engines, ambulances, and police cruisers are at the top of the heap, followed by other public service vehicles such as buses, road crews, and sanitation trucks. Beneath them are the cabbies and the delivery trucks. Below those are the locals and the "bridge & tunnel" crowd, but even they will devour you alive if you don't know what you're doing. Note ... that driving a car with out-of-state license plates (save for perhaps New Jersey, though that may be a stretch) will instantly mark you as an outsider, sometimes resulting in other drivers being more aggressive around you than they would with a local. Suffice it to say, driving in New York is not for the timid, fearful, or otherwise emotionally fragile.
