built 154 days ago
The Sims Superstar is certainly one of the best expansions for The Sims. To be the sixth expansion for the game and still offer something completely different is a remarkable achievement. It's great being able to see your Sim at work at long last. All the new items and features that have been added will certainly please longstanding fans of The Sims and will help keep their interest until the hugely anticipated The Sims 2 is released early next year.

The Sims is famous for its use of the higher frequency gibberish voices issued to each sim. When conversing, instead of exchanging real words, a conversation about trees would sound like “Haa don jaree, donkra totay.” This adds a neat comical aspect to the game, but is an interesting tactic that Maxis used to enable their sims to talk about anything. Instead of recording every word in the English language, they were able to generate various verbal emissions that resembled gibberish. The game ... features an uplifting soundtrack, that whenever played is something like music that one would hear on The Brady Bunch. The uplifting soundtrack is key to the success of this game because when people get frustrated with the game, they will rely on the happy music to keep them going, not the deep gothic music. The sound, although nothing really new from the original game, was very well done and does a fine job of keeping the bar up for this series of games.

There are some limitations to the first game of The Sims, most notably that children in the first series never grow up to become adults, though babies do eventually become children. Also, adult Sims never age (or die of old age), and there is no concept of weekends. For example, adults and children are expected to go to work and attend school respectively, every day. In particular, adults receive a warning if they miss one day of work, but they are fired if they miss work for two consecutive days. Children can study at home to keep their school grades up.

Superstar, along with every other addon pack for The Sims, has the same fundamental features found in the entire series. Upon buying your first house or lot the game begins similarly to every other Sims title. For new comers, a handy indepth tutorial can be activated taking you through every single process in a simple, real time manner, although buyers of Superstar will probably already be familiar with the basics of the game.
