The Ramones: New York
built 621 days ago
Cover of the Ramones 'End of the Century' The Ramones rank as one of the greatest prototypes in rock. Currently enjoying a revival of interest which (or because) half the band is unfortunately no longer around to enjoy, the New York CBGB graduates were the spark that ignited punk in the UK in the 1970s. Most music bibles credit the group with begin the first punk band, the band which paved the way for the more loud-mouthed and commanding Sex Pistols and more politically charged The Clash.

The Ramones early work was the blueprint for punk rock, having first started to play their particular brand of short, loud, simple rock in 1974. Their concerts at the New York club CBGB's earned them a considerable cult following and opened the door for similar acts like Patti Smith, and variants like the Talking Heads and Blondie.
"CBS 2 News has learned that Linda Stein, the former manager of the Ramones and 'realtor to the stars,' was found dead, lying in a pool of blood in her multi-million-dollar Fifth Ave. apartment on Manhattans' Upper East Side." [WCBS]
