The Ramones: Music
built 621 days ago
The Ramones found themselves together in answer to the stale atmosphere of rock 'n' roll as the 70s drew to a close. The best that was offered was dance infused and radio friendly songs pandering to the age of disco. In England, the Sex Pistols provided a shot in the arm for music despite all of their posturing and unfriendly antics. The Ramones did the same on American soil and in the fertile lands of NYC and CBGBs and other friendly club locations.

The Ramones always believed in their music's message of self-deliverance. They celebrated rock & roll, patriotic flag-wavers, simultaneously harking backward and forward. Their music wasn't angry, though it did have firepower and relentless energy. If anything, the Ramones affirmed that if they could do it, you could do it; just be resolute. Count to four.

Due to a similar musical style, many bands were claimed to be "an answer to the Ramones" by critics in the late 1970s. There were the "English answer" (The Lurkers),[46] the "Irish answer" (The Undertones),[47] the "Canadian answer" (Teenage Head),[48] and the "Mexican answer" (The Zeros).[49]
