The Stamps.com integration will enable PayPal users to buy and print U.S. Postal Service postage online from their PayPal account. PayPal sellers will be able to calculate the exact amount of postage required and print a shipping label pre-populated with the recipient's information using the Web-based application. In addition, the electronic Delivery Confirmation feature will allow sellers to conveniently verify delivery of their shipments online. This agreement represents the first deployment of Stamps.com's shipping application programming interface into a third party's product.
The U.S. Postal Service (USPS) and FedEx Express, a subsidiary of FedEx Corp., have agreed to a new contract for domestic air transportation of postal express shipments. The new agreement continues through September 2013, and supercedes the current contract which was set to expire in August of 2008. “USPS press release”

The transition from mechanization to automation for the U.S. Postal Service started in 1982, when the first optical character reader was installed in Los Angeles. The introduction of computers revolutionized the postal industry, and since then, the pace of change has accelerated dramatically.
The U.S. Postal Service has quietly terminated an 18-year, multibillion-dollar network services contract with Lockheed Martin that was to provide all of its data, voice, video and wireless services. Dubbed Universal Computing Connectivity (UCC), the contract was awarded to Lockheed Martin with much fanfare in October 2004. UCC had an estimated value of between $3 billion and $6 billion.
The Governors of the U.S. Postal Service proposed a "forever stamp" as part of a broader rate adjustment plan that would be scheduled to go into effect next year. Customers would be able to purchase a special First-Class stamp which would be good for any future single-piece First Class letter mailing, no matter how prices might change beyond 2007. “USPS press release”
