1. Monsanto -- Monsanto Pledge
   Monsanto ... came under heavy public fire with the development of their "Terminator Technology", a.k.a. "suicide seeds", in which the seeds coming from a first planting would be sterile thereby forcing farmers around the world in the Roundup Ready System to buy their seed from them every year rather than saving their best seed for the next years planting, a traditional and economical practice [14]. Seed saving has had the benefit of allowing farmers to continually improve the quality of their crops through careful artificial selection. Fears were also expressed that Monsanto's terminator genes could spread to wild plants. In 1999 Monsanto called the program off, even pledging "not to pursue technologies that result in sterile seeds" [15]. However they later changed that in a revised pledge which caused an uproar [16].
2. Accutane -- Manage Accutane
   As of March 1, 2006, a new, enhanced Accutane® pregnancy risk management program called iPLEDGE has replaced the SMART® program. 3. Maria Cantwell -- Money
   Cantwell spent over $10 million of her own money on her campaign, pledging not to accept money from PACs. When RealNetworks stock declined at the end of 2000, she spent time raising funds for debt retirement, although she kept her pledge not to accept PAC money, as documented by the nonpartisan Center for Responsive Politics.[24]
4. Kazan -- Miscellaneous
   Kazan ... pledged his commitment to the "rights of labor" in his declaration. However, eliminating radicals from the labor movement and thereby weakening workers' resistance was a top priority of the McCarthyites. While the ruling class was in no position to drive workers back to the economic conditions of the 1930s, it was determined to render the unions politically harmless. The bourgeoisie was prepared to make sizable concessions in the form of wages and improved living conditions if it could ensure the dominance of a pro-capitalist bureaucracy in the labor movement.
5. University of Vermont -- Miscellaneous
   The Gill Foundation recently pledged a $20,000 matching grant to benefit gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender programs at the University of Colorado at Boulder. Over the next year, the CU Foundation will raise funds to match the gift.
6. Patents -- Access
   Today’s action is notable because it formally extends royalty-free access to necessary patents owned by these six organizations to the general public to encourage use of the OSGi Service Platform Release 4. Previously, such access was generally granted to full OSGi members. The details of today’s action are provided in each organization’s pledge. 7. Steven F. Udvar -- Space Museum
   Museum’s Steven F. Udvar–Hazy Center, which opened Dec. 15, has been in the works for more than 20 years. It is worth the wait. It may be the best place in the world to see airplanes.
8. Sean Penn -- Indian Runner
   In addition to acting, Penn had directed numerous films. "The Indian Runner" (1991) is an impressive drama about two brothers trying to cope in the wake of the Vietnam War starring Viggo Mortensen and Dennis Hopper. "Crossing Guard" (1995) starred Jack Nicholson a seedy jeweler who has sworn to kill the drunk driver who killed his little girl. "The Pledge" (2001) was another dark drama based on a novel by Friedrich Dürrenmatt, once again starring Nicholson, about a man who has made a promise he can't break, to catch a killer he can't find.

10. Battle -- Battle Creek
    The Volunteer Center of Battle Creek issues monthly reports on activity at the 211 Call Center. The center is the first of its kind in Michigan, set up to make it easier for Calhoun County residents and people in surrounding areas to find health and human services assistance.
