  1. Call of Duty: United Offensive -- Infinity Ward
Award-winning developer Gray Matter Interactive follows up on the success of Infinity Ward's Call of Duty with Call of Duty: United Offensive. Take the role of American, British, and Russian soldiers in some of the most climactic battles of World War II, including the Battle of the Bulge, the invasion of Sicily, and the Battle of Kursk. Fight in tanks, jeeps, motorcycles, or even a bomber. Work with your squad through snow and rain, using new weapons including flamethrowers and deployable machine guns, or by calling in artillery strikes. The expansion features 13 all-new single-player missions spanning three campaigns, 11 exciting new multiplayer maps, and three new multiplayer modes: Domination, Capture the Flag, and Base Assault.
  2. Nikita Khrushchev
"Nikita Khrushchev was one of the most important political leaders of the twentieth century. Without his memoirs, neither the rise and fall of the Soviet Union nor the history of the Cold War can be fully understood. By dictating his memoirs and publishing them in the West, Khrushchev transformed himself from the USSR’s leader to one of its first dissidents. His remarkably candid recollections were a harbinger of glasnost to come. Like virtually all memoirs, his have a personal and political agenda, but even what might be called Khrushchev’s "myth of himself" is vital for understanding how this colorful figure could place his contradictory stamp on his country and the world. The fact that the full text of Khrushchev’s memoirs will now be available in English is cause for rejoicing."
  3. Call of Duty: United Offensive -- Gray Matter Studios
Activision has released a new trailer for United Offensive, showcasing the expansion pack to the highly acclaimed, best-selling Call of Duty from Infinity Ward (thanks: 3DGamers). In the works at Gray Matter Studios, United Offensive will offer three separate single player campaigns (Battle of the Bulge for the US side, the Battle of Kursk for the Russian side and an unnamed battle for the British side) and it is scheduled for release this Fall. Be sure to check the E3 2004 trailer too.
  4. Call of Duty: United Offensive -- Cod American
United Offensive follows a similar format to that found in Call of Duty. You play as three Allied soldiers--an American paratrooper, a British SAS commando, and a Soviet infantryman--who are caught in the great struggle against Nazi Germany. Over the course of the single-player campaign, you'll go from the frozen siege of Bastogne during the Battle of the Bulge to the epic German counterattack at Kursk. Throughout most of the campaign, you'll participate in huge, heavily scripted, set-piece battles that make the squad-based battles in Call of Duty look downright minuscule in comparison.
  5. Serfdom in Russia
There was still serfdom in Russia until February 19, 1861. In Russian Baltic provinces it ended in the beginning of 19th century (Russian Serfdom Reforms). Russian serfdom was different than in other Eastern European countries, because it wasn’t changed by German law and people coming from Germany. The serfdom and manorialism systems were forced by the crown (Tsar), not the nobility.
  6. Blitzkrieg -- Blitzkrieg Ii
Blitzkrieg is the fine art of strategy: instead of blind hits with a huge club, you dissect the enemy with a thin blade of a sword! Halt the enemy’s position with strategic tank and air assaults. This will keep your relentless offensive rolling. Prove your tactical skills in historical battles of World War II all around the globe. You command German, Soviet or allied troops, which will gain experience and fight more effectively over the course of the war. As you progress, you will obtain access to the latest technology of warfare.
  7. Call of Duty -- Infinity Ward
It looks like Infinity Ward has unveiled the achievements that can be unlocked in their upcoming Call of Duty 4. There will be a total of 37 achievements worth 1000 points overall. Most of those can be gained by completing missions on Veteran difficulty. The rest require you to go out of your way to complete certain objectives, like destroy all TVs showing Al-Asad’s speech. Oddly, there doesn’t seem to be any achievements that can be unlocked in multiplayer though. You can check out the whole list at Achieve360points.com.
  8. Eastern Front -- Soviet Union
The war on the Eastern Front was unparalleled for its ferocity, intensity, and brutality. By most estimates some 4 million Axis troops and 11 million Soviet troops fell in battle or died as POWs. Another 15–17 million Soviet civilians fell victim to massacres, disease, and starvation during the war.
  9. Leonid Brezhnev -- Communist Party
Leonid Brezhnev was born on Dec. 12, 1906, in Kamenskoe (now Dneprodzerzhinsk), a metallurgical center in the Ukraine. A member of a working-class family, he was obliged to leave school at the age of 15 and go to work. But he continued to study as a part-time student of surveying at a vocational secondary school, and graduated at the age of 21. In the years immediately following, Brezhnev held a number of minor government posts and at that time ... joined the Communist party. Then he enrolled in the Kamenskoe Metallurgical Institute, graduating in 1935 as a metallurgical engineer. The field of engineering engaged him only briefly, however, for he soon became involved in government and party work.
