Mothers at that time, didn’t have jobs, so the fathers had to get all the money for food, clothing etc. Back then people didn’t get paid as much as they do now so it was a lot harder to care for their families.

In the great depression it would have been nice if the suffering had been so evenly distributed. Instead the deflation caused bankruptcies, which in turn led to, more bankruptcies! Millions of people and companies were wiped out completely. The lack of adequate social programs left people of all social strata depending on relatives and friends for charity. Spending became paralyzed with fear as the downturn was so unexpected, so severe, and the bad news just kept coming for years.

The purpose of the project is to interview individuals who remember life during the Great Depression (1929-1941) throughout the world. Students will use supplied interview questions, gather responses, and summarize data to reflect the life styles of people who lived during this time period.
