The Goon Show: Goon Shows
built 627 days ago
Major Bloodnok, VD and Bar The Goon Show was a revelation to all the latent eccentrics who populated the UK. Goon Show humour bridged political persuasion, the British class system. Academics, white-collar workers, blue-collar workers and even those just wearing vests all shared in the crazy, zany antics of Bluebottle, Eccles and Neddie et al.
The Goon Show Classics: You Have Deaded Me Again (Previously Volume 8) (BBC Radio Collection) Over 100 episodes of The Goon Show are available from The BBC Radio Collection and EMI. They are available to buy on CD and are of a far higher quality than those available for download on the Internet.
In 1972 the Goons reunited to perform 'The Last Goon Show of All' for radio and television, before an invited audience that didn't include long-time fan The Prince of Wales. He was on military duty with the Royal Navy at the time. The last time all three Goons worked together was in 1978 when they recorded two new songs, 'The Raspberry Song' and 'Rhymes'.

The in-depth history of The Goon Show was broadcast on 27 May 1991 to celebrate the 40th Anniversary of the Goons' first radio series. Crazy People. It was a unique opportunity whereby the contributors to the shows could tell their own stories and illustrate them with clips from classic episodes.
GO ON-line The ABC (now called Radio National) still broadcast the Goon Show Friday at 5.30am. Keep an eye out for repeats, as previously the same show was repeated Sundays at 3.30pm. Truly a national institution!

The animated film 'Shrek' makes a reference to The Goon Show. When Donkey and Shrek are looking up at the stars, Shrek points the constellation 'Bloodnok the Flatulent', a reference to the character Major Bloodnok.
