  1. Drudge Report
Matt Drudge's The Drudge Report is one of the best-known political news and gossip sites on the Internet. Drudge grew up near Washington, D. C., then headed west to Los Angeles with dreams of becoming a journalist. After a series of frustrating low-paying jobs, he launched his own website in 1995, combining news links and headlines with celebrity gossip "scoops" he had overheard or found by digging through the trash. Drudge ... added political gossip to the mix, and in 1998 broke the story of an affair between Monica Lewinsky and U.S. President Bill Clinton. The story made him a permanent fixture on the political gossip scene. Drudge's flair for the theatrical (he prefers to dress in the costume of an early 20th century muckraker) made him an instant hit on the same media outlets he regularly criticized, and soon he had his own commentary show on radio and TV.
  2. Drudge Report -- Matt Drudge
The Drudge Report is a U.S.-based news aggregation website run by Matt Drudge. The site consists mainly of links to stories from the US and international mainstream media about politics, entertainment, and current events as well as links to many popular columnists. Occasionally Drudge authors news stories himself. The Report originated around 1994 as a weekly subscriber-based email dispatch. It is most famous for being the first news source to break the Monica Lewinsky scandal to the public after Newsweek decided not to publish the story.[2] .
  3. Drudge -- Drudge Report
The Drudge Report is a website hosted by Matt Drudge, which features occasional salacious rumors about politicians and celebrities. Drudge relies heavily on information from Republican party operatives and has repeatedly broadcast claims that were later proven false. His website was ... one of the first to publish reports of Monica Lewinsky's affair with President Bill Clinton. However, Drudge had nothing to do with the footwork associated with this scoop. He obtained it from Newsweek magazine, which had decided at the last minute to can the story written by Michael Isikoff.
  4. Drudge Report -- Huffington Post
The Drudge Report has gone guns-out on The New Republic on how the magazine handled the controversy over a series of articles it ran by the anonymous "Baghdad Diarist." Documents posted on Drudge this afternoon (and then whisked off again just like that!), Drudge claimed, indicated that TNR "failed to publicly account for publishing slanderous falsehoods about the U.S. military in a time of war." The docs may or may not be damning evidence. But presuming they're not fakes—and the transcript is incredibly detailed, for certain—here's what they say. more
  5. Drudge Report -- Stories
In 1999, the Drudge Report announced that it had viewed a videotape which was the basis of a Star Magazine and Hard Copy story. Under the headline, "Woman Names Bill Clinton Father Of Son In Shocking Video Confession", Drudge reported a videotaped confession by a former prostitute who claimed that her son was fathered by Bill Clinton. The Report stated, "To accuse the most powerful man in the world of being the father of her son is either the hoax of a lifetime, or a personal turmoil that needs resolution. Only two people may know that answer tonight." The claim turned out to be a hoax.[42]
  6. Drudge Report -- Hillary Clinton
From a report at Drudge: Facing a double-digit defeat in New Hampshire, a sudden collapse in national polls and an expected fund-raising drought, Senator Hillary Clinton is preparing for a tough decision: Does she get out of the race? And when?! "She can't take multiple double-digit losses in New Hampshire, South Carolina and Nevada," laments one top campaign insider to the DRUDGE REPORT. "If she gets too badly embarrassed, it will really harm her. She doesn't want the Clinton brand to be damaged with back-to-back-to-back defeats.
  7. Drudge
In addition to the "Bomb Iran" video, Drudge was one of the first to post links to a 1989 video clip of Giuliani declaring "there must be public funding for abortions for poor women." In April, he posted a story suggesting that a blotch on McCain's head (caused from a bump) was in fact a new case of skin cancer, a false rumor apparently intended to fan concern over McCain's age. Drudge has ... posted embargoed text of Romney's presidential announcement speech in February. On May 10, he posted the first excerpts of Romney's May 13 interview on "60 Minutes."
  8. Drudge -- Defendant Drudge
Defendant Matt Drudge, a Takoma Park, Maryland native, is a resident of the State of California, where he has lived continuously since 1987. In early 1995, defendant Drudge created an electronic publication called the Drudge Report, a gossip column focusing on gossip from Hollywood and Washington, D.C. Mr. Drudge's base of operations for writing, publishing and disseminating the Drudge Report has been an office in his apartment in Los Angeles, California.
  9. Drudge -- Matt Drudge
Regardless of those that deconstruct the purpose of the DrudgeReport, Matt Drudge is carrying on in the tradition of Woodward & Bernstein, just not at a major news agency. He is providing a platform for whistleblowers to expose the truth. Within that forum one should expect some UFO stories, some tawdry sex-scandal stories, etc. For those partisan-eye-glasses folks who think Drudge is right-wing or left-wing, note that whenever a scandal in the White House is breaking, he covers it. Clinton got his, Bush gets his, as do their minions and compatriots. That would suggest he is less partisan in his postings than one might accuse.
  10. Drudge -- Stories
In August 2005, political commentator Arianna Huffington launched her political blog and news site, "The Huffington Post," to provide a forum for progressive issues and to compete with the conservative slanted Drudge Report. Nearly a year (and a myriad of bombshell political stories) later, The Huffington Post has demonstrated its gravitas in the arena by featuring guest columns from a wide array of high profile politicians, strategists and celebrities. While Drudge Report has established itself as the torchbearer in this internet space, The Huffington Post is gaining ground quickly and proving a formidable opponent to Drudge.
