The band The Cranberries was formed by two brothers called Noel, and Mike hogan in 1990. The original name used to be The Cranberry Saw Us. They had a lead singer name Niall Quinn and a drummer called Fergal Lawler, but when their lead singer left the group the band was force audition for a new lead singer. The person who got the spot was a friend of the lead singer's girlfriend Dolores O'Riordan. She was an amazing lyric writer, that after the band handed her an demo of a melody she came up with lyrics fo the song the next day. That one song called "Linger" later on became one of the bands greatest hits.
No Need to Argue. The Cranberries were an Irish alternative rock band that rose to mainstream popularity in the 1990s. They have sold an estimated 43 million albums worldwide, not including singles.[1] Since 2003 the members have all pursued solo careers.
The Cranberries stumbled with their move toward heavier, politically fueled modern rock on To the Faithful Departed, losing fans enamored with their earlier sound. Like many groups that see their stardom fading, the band decided to return after a short hiatus with a mildly updated, immaculately constructed distillation of everything that earned them an audience in the first place. It's immediately apparent that Bury the Hatchet has retreated from the ludicrous posturing that marred To the Faithful. There are no blasts of distorted guitar — as a matter of fact, there are no songs that even qualify as "rockers" - and there is little preaching, even on Dolores O'Riordan's most earnest songs. Every note and gesture is pitched at the adult alternative mainstream, which is a good thing. Though they ran away from the dreamy jangle of their first hits, the Cranberries never sounded more convincing than on mid-tempo, folky pop tunes with polished productions.

The Cranberries is made up of four people three people and one goose. Their unique synthesis has been called "...less than the sum of its parts..." and "Thoroughly pedestrian 90's crap..." and those are the good reviews. The group copied the more talented bands who played Del Crappo style music (see: Bright Red Paper), but because they lived in Ireland and not in Amsterdam or Portland they couldn't get enough pot to get high enough to reach the full potential of the genre. The band then turned to the alternative of mind reading.
