A new study from The Slay Media Access Study reveals that Americans given a list of names of people who have been in the news recently, Americans indicated that they were most familiar with Tiger Woods. The golf superstar scored 92 percent on the familiarity scale, followed by actress Julia Roberts (90 percent), actor Jim Carrey (87 percent) and pop music star Britney Spears (84 percent). Americans were more familiar with those four than they were with Vice President Dick Cheney (78 percent) or Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan (67 percent). Only 10 percent of Americans said they were familiar with Chinese President Jiang Zemin. It's fascinating that even after millions of words have been written about the high-stakes collision between a U.S. surveillance plane and a Chinese military aircraft that the leader of the largest country in the world is still so unfamiliar to Americans," said Slay. "Britney Spears is eight times more familiar to us than is the leader of a country that will play a dominant role in our future.
