The Bee Gees: Albums
built 624 days ago
The Bee Gees released E.S.P. in 1987 as a comeback album; it was well received, and quite popular everywhere except in the United States. One (1989) was popular in the US as well, and the title track was a hit. A few albums and multiple compilations followed in the 1990s that met with modest success.

The Bee Gees released the album E.S.P. in 1987, which sold over 3 million copies. The single "You Win Again" went to #1 in numerous countries, including Britain, but was a disappointment in the US, charting at #75.

The title track is one of the best Bee Gees tracks EVER--and it's no surprise that it brought them right back to the top of the charts again, even in the fickle ol' US of A! Great video, too...they're looking hipper then they have since 1968. The Gibb Brothers' expertise at turning male pattern baldness into a visual advantage is rivalled only by their skill at staying on top of the Billboard charts. The rest of the album is fair-to-middlin'. A couple of the songs really irritate. "Tokyo Nights" in particular.

The soundtrack to that film starring John Travolta soon became the biggest-selling album of all time, and the Bee Gees completely dominated pop radio from 1977-1980 in a way that no band except the Beatles ever had. The resulting backlash kept them off the charts for much of the Eighties, but they enjoyed small comebacks in 1989 and 1997. Sadly, Maurice died in 2003 from what some consider medical malpractice, closing the door forever on one of music's most polarizing yet entertaining acts.

In a career now in its fourth decade, the Bee Gees have sold over 120 million albums worldwide. At several points throughout their career, Barry, Maurice, and Robin Gibb have borne commercial dry spells, and critics have chronically dismissed them.

For fans of the Bee Gees, '70's music, the disco era, and just really good music, Greatest is ideal. Those who have previously owned the album will want to get it if only because it has been remastered. The extras are just icing on the cake.
