Alan W. Livingston, President of Capitol Records (USA), decides to pull the "butcher cover" Yesterday & Today album which depicted the Beatles dressed up in white smocks with red raw meat and decapitated heads from baby dolls. Livingston issues the following statement: "The original album cover, created in England, was intended as pop art satire. However, sampling of public opinion in the United States indicates that the cover design is subject to misinterpretation....For this reason...Capitol has chosen to withdraw the lp and substitute it for a more generally accepted design." The "butcher cover" album would become one of the most sought-out prizes by Beatle collectors. Note: According to the 1995 edition of "The Official Price Guide to the Beatles" Perry Cox and Joe Lindsay would list a "first issue, first state butcher cover" (Capitol ST-2553) is appraised at $7,000.

Apple Ottawa - The Royal Mail's first stamp issue of 2007 was to celebrate the 1960's music phenomenon, The Beatles. To acknowledge their international impact, Canada Post will be selling two United Kingdom products at select Post Offices in late February.
From the time Elvis went into the Army until the Beatles arrived on these shores, no one had a better batting average than Chubby Checker. He sold 250,000,000 records during those 4 1/2 years. It is not surprising that Dick Clark said, "The three most important things that ever happened in the music industry are Elvis Presley, the Beatles and Chubby Checker." His latest 10 track Maxi Single features "The Original Master of the Dance Hall Beat" which is being played at contemporary radio stations with the other A side, "The Limbo Rock/Do The Limbo Rock," played at the largest Oldies stations in the country.
Beatlemania exploded in the United States with three national television appearances by the Beatles on The Ed Sullivan Show on 9 February, 16 February and 23 February 1964. The pop-music band became a worldwide phenomenon with worshipful fans and angry denunciations by cultural observers and established performers such as Frank Sinatra, sometimes on grounds of the music (which was thought crude and unmusical) or their appearance (their hair was scandalously long).
Fan appreciation: Beatle fan Marc Catone was actually at the Shea Stadium concert in '65 and he e-mailed a scanned image of his ticket stub. If you click on the ticket you'll get a larger view along with the flip side of the stub describing the terms and conditions for a rain check. Said Marc: "Note that the Shea had a rain date of 8/16 which probably accounts for early books on The Beatles incorrectly stating that they played two concerts at Shea in 1965."
