The Beatles fly to Rishikesh, India in 1968 and stay there from February until April, studying with Maharishi Mahesh Yogi. They left in April because of a scandal involving Mahesh Yogi. The Beatles ... form their own recording label and Apple Corps. becomes their label and they use it to discover new music talent as well. They release their 9th album simply titled “The Beatles”, but it has commonly become known as “The White Album.” Ringo had left the group during the session, so Paul had to fill in on some of the drum parts for the album. There was a great deal of tension within the group after the “White Album”, the members had begun to explore other musical avenues separately especially John who released an album with his soon to be wife Yoko Ono called, “Unfinished Music No. 1: Two Virgins.”

The Beatles Anthology was shown in 1995, when John, Paul, George and Ringo told The Beatles' story for the first time. At that time the Anthology project caused a worldwide sensation as it launched a TV series, three double-CD sets that each topped the album charts in the USA, plus Free As A Bird and Real Love -- the first new Beatles recordings in 25 years. All 10 hours of the original Anthology series will now be released across four DVD discs, plus an additional disc with 81 minutes of Special Features. Nearly all of the material included on this 5th disc has never been seen before.

The Beatles were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1988. As solo artists, all but Ringo have been inducted (Lennon in 1994, McCartney in 1999 and Harrison in 2004).
The Beatles English rock music group formed in the late 1950s and disbanded in 1970. The members were John Lennon, 1940-80, guitar and harmonica; (James) Paul McCartney, 1942-, guitar and piano; George Harrison, 1943-2001, guitar and sitar; and Ringo Starr (Richard Starkey), 1940-, drums. All were born in Liverpool, England. Influenced by such American performers as Chuck Berry , Little Richard , and Elvis Presley , The Beatles dominated rock music in the 1960s, eventually disbanding when they felt their possibilities as a group were exhausted. The lyrics and music for most of their songs were written by Lennon and McCartney.
- The Beatles' relentless musical tour ran in place this time. It took them several months more to realize that their carefully crafted fusion of Dylanesque lyrics and Brian Wilson-esque production values was a dead end, and, instead, to move in a million directions at once on their next album. However, they managed to toss off a superb collection of songs while jogging on their treadmill (title track, modelled on its Sgt. Pepper's counterpart; "I Am The Walrus," another elaborately tripped-out Lennon tune). Paul dominates a bit too much, with some of his upbeat pop numbers wearing thin ("Your Mother Should Know"), but others being marvelous ("Hello Goodbye"). Half the record is a newly-recorded double EP, and the other half is singles from the previous 12 months, including some truly classic hits: John's extraordinary acid-rock production "Strawberry Fields Forever," which almost topped the Beach Boys' contemporary "Good Vibrations"; Paul's marvelous, cleverly orchestrated "Penny Lane"; and irresistable, perfectly timed Summer of Love anthem "All You Need Is Love."
