While the harvest celebration held in Plymouth Colony in 1621 has been mistakenly referred to as the “First Thanksgiving” since the 1800s, the first Thanksgiving Day as the Separatists understood it occurred in 1623. As with many later New England Days of Thanksgiving, it followed a Day of Humiliation. Accordingly, the Thanksgiving holiday falls earlier in Canada than in the United States. The Canadian Parliament set aside November 6 for annual Thanksgiving observances in 1879. In 1957 the date was shifted to an even earlier day, the second Monday in October.

The still-walkable, pre-winter streets and the cold air just say, "Yay! Winter is coming!" New York is the most fast-paced town on the planet and you need a respirator to keep up. High heels or running shoes, New York is a walking city that has something going on at every corner every hour of the day.

This year will mark the 79th annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. Macy’s released a press release that can be found at PRNewswire about Walt Disney World’s affiliation with this year’s event. Macy’s gives everyone the oportunity to get involved. Marching bands from around the country come to perform and numerous companies sponsor floats and pay for advertising segments throughout the program which airs on NBC.
