Sales for Texas Lotto alone... dropped about 9 percent from fiscal 2003 to fiscal 2004 — to $477.8 million. And Lotto sales for the first 40 weeks of fiscal 2005, which began Sept. 1, are down almost 26 percent, compared to the first 40 weeks of last year, Heith said.

The new Texas Lotto game was introduced in April 2006 and is a far better version of the original game. Lotto Texas returns to a straight 6-of-54 matrix with overall odds of winning of 1 in 71. The new matrix replaces the previous 5-of-44 plus 1-of-44 bonus ball game. The simpler form offers higher jackpot winning odds, making the new game more appealing.
