The Texas Lottery has been in the business of making millionaires for years. With six primary games offering huge daily and weekly jackpots, the Texas Lotto has something for everyone. Mega Millions is a multi-state lottery game with drawings on Tuesdays and Fridays and jackpots starting at $10 million. Lotto Texas is a new game with multi-million dollar jackpots and drawings Wednesdays and Saturdays. Texas lottery numbers are picked daily for Pick 3 (day and night) and Cash 5 (6 days per week). The new Texas Two Step game is drawn on Tuesdays and Fridays and offers Jackpots starting at $200,000.
Happy Holidays, the Texas Lottery's first $5 scratch game, is launched. Strong sales from all Lottery products help set a record average of $78.4 million per week for the 1996 holiday season.
The Texas Lottery's new television ad, debuting Feb. 3, supports a new add-on feature -- called Sum It Up -- to the Lottery's popular Pick 3 and new Daily 4 games. When added to a Pick 3 or Daily 4 play, the player adds another chance to win if the sum of the numbers chosen is the same as the sum of the winning numbers. In the spot, the kangaroo represents an "extra chance to win" for the lead character in his everyday life. Traveling with his owner throughout the day, the kangaroo hops into another checkout line in the supermarket to give the man another chance to find the fastest lane. At home, the kangaroo places a second call to a live radio promotion to win the prize, and later, at a wedding reception, the kangaroo's quick move helps catch the bride's garter for his owner.
Because of the success of the Texas Two Step, the Texas Lottery has chosen to move this game to Mondays and Thursdays starting June 28, 2004. This way there will be a large jackpot style game in Texas every day of the week except for Sunday. Other game rules for the Texas Two Step will remain the same.
The Texas Lottery is run by the Texas state government. Its most popular game is the multi-state Mega Millions; its other major game is Lotto Texas. Unlike Powerball, Texas is the only one of the 12 Mega Millions states to offer a multiplier, known as the Megaplier.
