From commercial to general aviation facilities, Texas airports are preparing for a safer future. Projects from Houston to Amarillo are adding capacity and safety measures. *At Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport, a new $66 million perimeter taxiway system is being designed to improve safety and enable arriving aircraft to taxi around active runways rather than cross them. "The concept of perimeter taxiways is new," says Perfecto Solis, PE, vice president for airport development and engineering at DFW. "This airport is on the leading edge of this technology." The FAA will provide 75 percent of the construction funding.
A native of Kerrville, Texas, Mr. Van Cleave graduated from Texas A & M University (TAMU) with a B.S. in building construction in 1981 and began his career the same year as a field engineer with The Clark Construction Group. There, he continued through the ranks to Vice President of Preconstruction, then to Senior Vice President of Operations before joining CCC-Southwest in 1996.
The 2004 Nano Summit will be held July 29, 2004 at the Hornberger Conference Center in the Texas Medical Center . Dr. Andreas Hirsch, of the Institute for Organic Chemistry at the University of Erlangen-Nürnberg, is the Keynote Speaker. Nobel Laureate Richard Smalley referred to Dr. Hirsch as "the best Fullerene chemist in the world" at a recent meeting. The event will feature 17 lead investigators from Texas institutions followed by a poster session. " Dr. Paul C. W. Chu on leave from the University of Houston as Professor of Physics and the President of Hong Kong University of Science and Technology will present "Create a Smart Fluid from Nano-Particles."
Mr. Schiller graduated with honors from Texas A&M University with a Bachelor of Science in Petroleum Engineering and now serves as Chairman of the Texas A&M Petroleum Engineering Advisory Board. He is a member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers, American Petroleum Institute, American Association of Drilling Engineers and Houston Producers Forum.
Associate research members include Fraunhofer IZM, SAIT (Samsung Advanced Institute of Technology), KAIST (Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology) and TAMU (Texas A&M University). Material members include Rohm and Haas, Honeywell, Enthone, and AZ with wafer service support from Isonics .
