Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi is a comprehensive urban university located on the South Texas Gulf Coast. The University focuses on the higher education needs of South Texas and the state, and on coastal and urban issues, with special emphasis on Allied Health, Applied Technology, Arts and Humanities, Business Administration, Environmental Studies and Teacher Education.
Growing enrollment at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi prompted an Austin-based development company to undertake an $11 million project designed exclusively to house college students. The property at 5525 S. Alameda St. will be known as Islander Village. The project is being developed by Campus Village Alameda LP and managed by Hammond Jones Real Estate Development. A&M-Corpus Christi Vice president for Student Affairs Eliot Chenaux said current rates for on-campus apartments range from $455 to $822. Those apartments, similar to the Islander Village, include four furnished bedrooms and two bathrooms for $555. "I think it's a good thing because we are at 98 to 99 percent occupancy right now for on-campus housing," Chenaux said.
The History graduate program at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi blends the intensive study of traditional geographic regions with a distinctive emphasis on the growing fields of urban and applied history. Public school teachers and prospective community college teachers will gain the opportunity to enhance their knowledge and comprehension of their teaching fields, as well as to further hone their skills as historians. At the same time, the program provides opportunities for students to use an advanced degree in history as a means for entering academia or getting a job in museums, libraries, archives, and the public sector.
Texas A&M University - Corpus Christi, Performing Arts Center The A&M campus at this coastal Texas City is growing and with increased student population comes the desire for enhanced cultural opportunities that offer something to both the University and the City. The Performing Arts Center is both a teaching venue as well as a stage for the local symphony and as such it must address the needs of different audiences and performers. Holzman Moss Architecture developed a tightly wrapped, almost circular plan that provides a sense of intimacy for a wide range of performances. The result is a comfortable environment for professional musicians and the young performers alike no matter the number of audience members or performers.
