Tetracycline: Tetracyclines
built 642 days ago
Tetracycline inhibits cell growth by inhibiting translation. It binds to the 16S part of the 30S ribosomal subunit and prevents the amino-acyl tRNA from binding to the A site of the ribosome. The binding is reversible in nature.

Resistance to one tetracycline usually implies resistance to the others, although some research studies have observed differences in MICs for various tetracycline derivative - isolate pairs. These differences are not large and are not uniform throughout the country.
