While Quentin Tarantino's Death Proof seems to be a much more authentic representation of 1970s grindhouse pictures, Robert Rodriguez' Planet Terror is more of a loving caricature of 1980s zombie splatter films. Nothing in the film is played straight, and virtually every scene is accompanied by a wink and a grin at the audience.

Terror is a Middle Eastern country. Situated almost exactly midway between Jeopardy and Custody, the nation enjoys a predominantly political climate throughout the year, and therefore plays host to the world's largest supply of wild, hallucinogenic "George" bushes. Troubles recently flared in the area, after covert US-B forces attempted to eradicate ALL Terrorist 'George' bushes by spraying them with Nippon fo' Moss Destruction. Repeatedly. The US-B categorically stated at the time, most vocally, that they hadn't done anything at all, denying any involvement in everything; they did later concede responsibility for nothing, but claimed it was only done in self-defence.

Terror have cemented their status in great stone letters as guardians of old school hardcore ethics while winning the pit fervor of the new generation of metal and hardcore fans. Ignoring current musical trends the L.A. based band have stuck to their guns playing aggressive, no frills, breakneck hardcore like “The Cro-Mags” and “Agnostic Front” before them. Ragged metal-tinged guitars, rapid fire drum lines, slithering bass lines and trademark double-fisted vocal attacks are trademarks of their sound. Vocalist Scott Vogel is a bundle of endless energy, leaping about stages demanding nothing less than total crowd participation and interaction. Spending his formative years fronting such touchstone hardcore bands as the Buffalo, NY based Slugfest, Despair and Buried Alive Vogel has put his heart as well as his blood, sweat and tears into this scene.

With Planet Terror, Robert Rodriguez continues his "everything and the kitchen sink" mentality when it comes to his film-making by throwing everything at the wall just to see what sticks. While it sometimes feels like this technique gets in the way of Rodriguez finding a true film-making voice, it works quite well for a film like Planet Terror where there's no room for subtlety.

Urban Terror can best be described as a Hollywood tactical shooter; it is realism based to a certain extent (environments/weapons/player models), but ... goes by the motto "fun over realism" (fast gameplay and lots of action). This combination of reality and action results in a very unique, enjoyable and addictive game.
