Teresa of Avila was a nun who reformed the order of the Carmelites, an ascetic who had mystical visions and communications from God. Charismatic and controversial, she founded monasteries throughout Spain, and is known by works that include her autobiography and The Way of Perfection. She was beatified in 1614 and canonized in 1622 by Pope Gregory XV, and in 1970 was made a Doctor of the Church.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Teresa Wright, the willowy actress who starred opposite Gary Cooper and Marlon Brando and won a supporting Academy Award in 1942 for Mrs. Miniver, has died. She was 86.

Teresa was a very devout child. She was said to be very beautiful, extroverted, and charming. Like many children of the 16th century, Teresa and her brother Rodrigo studied the lives of the saints. When Teresa was seven, the she and Rodrigo ran away from home. They had planned to die for Christ in Moorish territory, but an uncle caught the children and returned them to their home.

Wright comes to Borders Group from Macys, where she served as Operating Vice President of Planning for Women's Ready To Wear since 2006. Prior to Macys, Wright held a variety of merchandising management positions at Wilsons Leather Inc. Her most recent post there was Vice President and General Manager of Merchandising and Marketing, a position she held from 2004 through 2006. Earlier in her career, Wright held buying posts at Marshall Fields/Dayton Hudson. She is a 1986 graduate of Michigan State University, where she earned a bachelor of arts degree in communication and retail management.

While studying at the convent, Teresa regained her former piety and began considering the possibility of becoming a nun. After 18 months, she became very sick. While recuperating at her sister's home in Castellanos, Teresa read the letters of St. Jerome. These helped her decide to enter the convent. Her father refused to allow it, saying she could do what she wanted after he died.
