Named by Empire Magazine in 1995 as one of the 100 Sexiest Film Stars of All Time, British actor Terence Stamp typically found himself cast as urbane, sophisticated bad guys throughout his career. Breaking into show business in the early 1960s, Stamp landed his first leading role at the age of 23 in “Billy Budd†(1962), the acclaimed adaptation of Herman Melville’s dense novella. An icon of British cinema’s wave of “angry young men,†Stamp’s portrayals – like those of his contemporaries Oliver Reed, Michael Caine and Albert Finney – inhabited shades of gray, walking the line between traditional protagonists and flawed anti-heroes. After his breathtaking early success... Stamp’s career entered into a significant slump in the late 60s. But later Stamp emerged after a nearly decade-long sabbatical to play the megalomaniacal super-villain General Zod in “Superman: The Movie†(1978) and its sequel, “Superman II†(1980). Immediately upon his release from prison, 60 year-old Wilson (Terence Stamp) flies to Los Angeles to avenge the apparent murder of his estranged daughter Jenny. He is haunted by memories of his own criminal past, and of the joy the girl brought to his life in their few moments together. Immediately, Wilson tracks down the ex-con (Luis Guzman) who initially sent him the newsclipping of the girl's death. Guzman is afraid to speak up, but tells Wilson his daughter was having an affair with Terry Valentine, a slimy record producer (Peter Fonda). Wilson dispatches several of Valentine's cronies in a quick, methodical bloodbath, and tells the lone survivor to inform Valentine that he's got his number. Wilson hooks up with his daughter's acting coach, an aging actress (Lesley Ann Warren), who tells him his daughter often spoke of him fondly.

Terence Stamp was born within the sound of the bells of St Mary-le-Bow Church in London which means he is one of the few people entitled to call himself a cockney. He began his working life in advertising but the happy chance of his failing the medical for National Service gave him an unexpected two years to look around for something else. He found acting and, after having worked in the British theatre, most notably in a National Tour of Hall’s The Long the Short and the Tall with another young actor called Michael Caine, Stamp was cast in the title role in Ustinov’s Billy Budd (1962). His immense success in the role, his famed exploits with his new flat-mate Caine and his affair with the prototype for the supermodel, Jean Shrimpton, led to an iconic presence in the similarly iconic sixties London scene.
