Writing Quenya with Tengwar is relativity easy, just remember that Tengwar is a phonetic alphabet. Words are written exactly as they are spoken. Typically the Tengwar (consonant letters) are written first, then the Tehtar (vowel symbols) are written above the appropriate consonant. In Quenya, and other languages that end most words with vowels, the Tehta is placed above the previous Tengwar letter. To read Quenya/Tengwar script you would read each Tengwar letter, then the Tehtar vowel symbol above it (in an upward motion), before going on to the next Tengwar/Tehtar letter combination. A number of other Tengwar fonts in TrueType and other formats are available, but they use different key mappings, and the instructions given here do not apply to them. As far the selection of letters and symbols is concerned, the fonts listed above (with the exception of Tengwar Cursive) should be quite enough for most purposes.

In the Tengwar writing system there are 24 standard consonant letters, each of which may be modified by one of the accents called tehtar (signs) which represent vowel sounds. The tehtar are markings written above (and sometimes below) one of the tengwar consonants. There are five tehtar, each corresponding to one of the five English vowels. The way that tengwar are mapped to English consonants is well developed, but there is a fair amount of variation in the methods of using tehtar to represent English vowel sounds.

Tengwar was founded in 2000, in Danville, Virginia, USA. Influenced strongly at first by Iron Maiden and old Metallica, Tengwar has grown musically over the years and has developed their own style of metal that fans of any sub-genre can enjoy, incorporating elements of prog, thrash, shred, and classic rock. The lyrics are either epic and story-telling or serious with deep meaning (with the newest songs containing more and more Biblical references and Christian themes), applied over heavy grooves, super fast riffs, clean sections, good musicianship, and good song writing - all intertwined for a highly pleasurable listening experience. Whatever you like, Tengwar has something that's right for you!

Rúmil of Tirion was the first to invent letters, or Tengwar, that could be written with a pen, but the later Fëanorian system became much more widespread. Fëanor's Tengwar were largely of his own invention, but were inspired, at least to some extent, by Rúmil's work.
