Temperature and heat are not the same phenomenon. Temperature is a measure of the intensity or degree of hotness in a body. Technically, it is determined by getting the average speed of a body's molecules. Heat is a measure of the quantity of heat energy present in a body. The spatial distribution of temperature in a body determines heat flow. Heat always flows from warmer to colder areas.

Temperature is related with the kinetic energy of the molecules. The kinetic energy changes when the temperature changes. Temperature is defined as the translation of heath between two objects. The fundamental temperature scale is the one of Kelvin. The temperature scale of Kelvin depends of the absolute zero point. This is the point where the molecules do not move anymore, so they do not give warmth.

Temperature is expressed as the inverse of the rate of change of entropy with internal energy, with volume V and number of particles N held constant. This is certainly not as intuitive as molecular kinetic energy, but in thermodynamic applications it is more reliable and more general. This form of the temperature can be obtained from the thermodynamic identity.
