Telemundo is a Spanish-language broadcast network in the U.S. owned by NBC Universal, the entertainment division of GE. Reaching 93 percent of U.S. Hispanic viewers, it offers a programming mix of entertainment, news and sports. To differentiate itself from market-leading Univision, Telemundo embarked on a strategy of producing its entire prime-time lineup. Don Browne, Telemundo’s president, has been with NBC for nearly 26 years. It’s a company he admires greatly because of its commitment to quality, integrity and innovation. Years ago he learned from Grant Tinker, who was NBC’s chaiman and CEO at the time, “First be best, then be first,” a lesson Browne is applying to Telemundo today.

photo Telemundo, a U.S. Spanish-language television network, is the essential entertainment, news, and sports source for Hispanics. Broadcasting unique national and local programming for the fastest-growing segment of the U.S. population, Telemundo reaches 93 percent of U.S. Hispanic viewers in 142 markets, 36 broadcast affiliates and nearly 684 cable affiliates. The NBC Universal Television Stations division owns and operates 15 Telemundo stations and one independent Spanish-language television station (KWHY, Los Angeles).
Because Univisión has exclusive U.S. rights to air programming from both Venevisión and Mexico’s Televisa, which has produced popular novelas, Telemundo has had to look further afield for programming new to U.S. Hispanics. But now it has struck deals with Mexico’s Argos Television, Brazil’s TV Globo and Colombia’s Caracol TV and RTI that will keep it well-supplied in novelas with a twist.
Telemundo had four different non-integrated accounting systems and an outdated reporting software package which prevented real time access to financial management and efficient processing. The company needed to upgrade its software to accelerate its internal reporting, including purchase order processing, financial forecasting, information management and billing.

The logo used between 1999 and 2000. Telemundo airs its 8-11 pm (ET/PT) weekday programs (usually telenovelas) using a form of the Turner Time scheduling strategy used by TBS from 1981 until 1997. Each program starts a few minutes after its officially scheduled time, typically three or four minutes after the hour. Shows ... bleed over into the next time slot. This encourages viewers to stay tuned to Telemundo instead of joining another channel's program in progress. The 11 pm news broadcasts start at the conventional time, however.
The launch of Telemundo 52 in HD will coincide with ¡Viva México! El Grito, an on-air special commemorating Mexico’s Independence from Spain. This two-hour special will be produced in High Definition with 13 cameras and from two venues and Telemundo 52 in Los Angeles will broadcast it in HD. The special will air Sunday, September 16th at 7:00 PM (PST). ¡Viva México! El Grito will have star-studded performances by Lucero, Gloria Trevi, Antonio Aguilar Jr., Ninel Conde, Autoridad de la Sierra, Beatríz Adriana and many more.
