Telemundo: Yahoo Telemundo

The Wall Street Journal reports that Yahoo En Espaol and Telemundo.com will be merging companies. They will be merging the staff and sharing one advertising budget. If you visit http://espanol.yahoo.com/ now, you will find both logos at the top of the page, representing each company. The reason for the merger is because the online Hispanic market is growing extremely quickly and the two companies want to take advantage of "the incredible growth of the Hispanic marketplace," today. It appears that the two companies will fold under the Yahoo umbrella.
Currently, Yahoo Telemundo offers advertising technologies, such as web analytics and ad-serving capabilities, with sports and movie content to follow soon. The second phase, which is expected in the next 30 to 60 days, will migrate Telemundo's prime-time soap operas and other shows to the Yahoo Telemundo site. Finally, the new site will add blogs and message boards.
Coming hot on the heels of what was presumably a successful trial run with Yahoo with the two shows Mosaico Hispano and Battle of the Bands, Telemundo now offers the shows one day after their network TV airing. Also available via the site are extra footage features, as well as some social features by way of Yahoo! Groups.

Yahoo Telemundo plans to enhance and create more engaging user experiences around Telemundo's on-air programming by integrating personalization, communities and user-generated content. The new entity will ... include content offerings tailored to first, second and third generation U.S. Hispanics through Spanish-language, bilingual and English-language content sections.
While NBC proper has decided to move away from socially distributed media with Hulu, NBC subsidiary Telemundo makes a step in the right direction. Telemundo last week began offering full-length episodes of all its prime-time series and novelas on Yahoo Telemundo.

"Yahoo can tap a market where there is no intrinsic brand affinity, and Telemundo gets the advantage of having a partnership with the number one site on the Internet," Sterling told TechNewsWorld. "This brings Yahoo's infrastructure and expertise to Telemundo's brand and market reach in the Hispanic community."
