KDEN is airing Telemundo programming pursuant to a time brokerage agreement, pending FCC approval of Telemundo's application to acquire the station. Denver is one of the country's fastest growing Hispanic markets, accounting for more than 194,000 Hispanic TV households and a Hispanic penetration of 14 percent. With a total population of more than 3.6 million in 2004, almost 20 percent of Denver's population is Hispanic.

WKAQ-TV launched the Telemundo brand on 28 March 1954. The station was founded by Ángel Ramos, owner of "El Mundo", Puerto Rico's main newspaper at the time, and Puerto Rico's first radio station, WKAQ-AM... known as "Radio El Mundo". Ramos wanted to maintain a consistent branding between its properties using the "mundo" theme (Spanish for "world"), and thus named WKAQ-TV Telemundo (in effect, "Teleworld" or "TV World"). He had tried to obtain a TV license as early as the mid 1940s, but due to an FCC licensing freeze for all new American TV stations, Ramos had to wait until 1954 to obtain the license.

Students selected for the internship program may intern in a variety of different divisions at Telemundo, including (but not limited to) the news division, advertising/marketing or sales. Placement of interns will be determined on a case-by-case basis, depending on student interest and opportunities available at the T. V. station.
