teenagerswofrankie.jpg (613125 bytes) Sporting a clean-cut wholesome image, the appeal of the Teenagers was their youth. On stage they were very energetic. The group was well choreographed by Cholly Atkins who would go onto greater fame with the Temptations. The Teenagers were packaged so as not to upset middle lass American parents. They even appeared in letter sweaters.
The Teenagers are an American doo wop group, most noted for being one of rock music's earliest successes, presented to international audiences by DJ Alan Freed. The group, which made its most popular recordings with young Frankie Lymon as lead singer, is ... noted for being rock's first all-teenaged act.[1]
A pack of teenagers closing in on the kill. Teenagers first appeared from stagnant ponds in the prehistoric Era, specifically, the Oligocene Epoch. Their predators and natural enemies included the Adultus Themanus, the Sixtiesus Musicus, and the feared by all Oprahsaurus. They mainly ate meat... some eventually evolved into the Goth sub-species and began eating only vegatables. These teenagers began to lack the necessary protein, and became weaker and hid in darkened places conversing on their doubts about the meaningfulness of existence. The later descendants of the goths still show their darkened traits, and can be spotted in todays society of animals by their sluggish and overall lethargic behavior.
"Begin The Beguine" is, without a doubt, the oddest Teenagers record, it mostly features the bass lead of Sherman Garnes, in a tribute to Jimmy Ricks. Frankie is only heard at the end, when he sings the last stanza. Aside from being over-orchestrated, with a weak performance from Jimmy, Herman, and Joe, it's quite a good effort by Sherman and Frankie. However, it, too, was unreleased. This was to be part of the "standards" to be included on the "Frankie Lymon and the Teenagers at the London Palladium" album. Says Jimmy, "We were finally going to have a shot at others doing the lead."
