Teenage Depression: Schools
built 638 days ago
Teenage depression can lead to reduced motivation, no desire to do anything, preoccupation. Interrupted or poor sleep, leading reduced concentration levels and constant tiredness. This 'knock on' to possibly missing some school and a reduced grade average in their studies. This all feeds the depressive phase.
Lackluster performance at school is one of the signs of a teenage depression especially if the trend was from up to down in a matter of weeks or a few months. This means that your teenage son or daughter is facing a difficult time, whether at home or at school, and this matter should be discussed with him or her. During a dialogue, don't go on the offensive since this will push your child away from you. Talk to your teenage son or daughter as though he is an adult and let him do more of the talking.
Maybe they were turned away by their latest crush, maybe they were made fun of at school or maybe they don't like the way they look during the awkward teenage years. This type of teenage depression is known as situational. It's caused by something. Even if the cause isn't immediately seen, this type of depression usually passes as the situation does. As a parent, you can get past this type of teenage depression by taking their mind off of their problems.
When this happens too suddenly, it is one of the signs of teenage depression. However, if this happens just once in a while and your teenage son or daughter still dresses up for school, he is just a normal teenager who gets lazy at times.
Children and teenagers can been taught specific skills and ways of thinking which can a) help lift depression and b) help prevent relapse. These skills are already being taught in some schools with remarkable results. You will learn more about this as you continue.
