Laser removal of tattoos breaks the ink down into tiny particles that scavenger cells in the skin can digest. A special type of laser that emits light energy in very brief pulses, each lasting only nanoseconds, is used. This keeps heating of the surrounding skin to a minimum, making scarring less likely.
