Playing aggressively, Garbin made the early running to lead 4-1, only for Henin-Hardenne to rally and serve for the first set at 5-4. The pattern was similar in the second set, as the winner of three of the past four grand slam titles ... found herself down an early break, but responded to lead 4-2, before Garbin won the last four games.

[T]he dream final was set between Gersi and Garbin. Gersi was the slight favourite thanks to her 13-place advantage over Garbin in the world rankings, and the match went to form. Gersi held her nerve to sink Garbin 6-4, 6-3 in just over 80 minutes.

Anna got off to the best possible start against Garbin with a break of serve in only the second game of the match. She then piled the pressure on her opponent with some slick forehand winners to run out an easy winner in the first set.
