Tarkan is a fantastic bit of trash cinema from the now largely defunct Turkish film industry. During a brief, glorious period in the ’60s and ‘70s, Turkey pumped out a huge number of pulp masterpieces, perhaps the most famous of which is the excellent Kilink Istanbul’da. Turkish movies blended the sensibilities of comic books, serials, and violent ‘70s pulp entertainment, into a uniquely strong Turkish brew. While some may only be familiar with the rip-offs of Western pop culture like The Man Who Saved the World (Star Wars) or 3 Dev Adam (Turkish Captain America and El Santo vs Evil Turkish Spiderman), there was quite a bit of original film-making going on ....

It should be mentioned here for the sake of balance that Tarkan has ... severed his emotional attachments to Germany. The question arises, however, if his magic on the international stage will disappear once people can suddenly understand the lyrics to his songs.

Tarkan, born in London in 1973, started off at Norwich City as a schoolboy before moving onto Wimbledon. When he didn't make it into a first-teamer, he joined Kettering Town. After a year he moved on to Barnet where he could only make 11 appearances and again, a year later, he moved on to Kingstonian. He spent two years with the Ks, the highlight of which was an FA Trophy win where he scored the winning goal at Wembley. He was snapped up by Rushden & Diamonds after this and won the Conference title with them and ... had a trip to Cardiff in the Final of the Third Division Play-Off. After being told he was surplus to requirements, a trial at Coventry City followed where he didn't earn a move and he went on loan to Doncaster.

DJ Tarkan starts his September 2007 mix with the seductive vocals of Tomomi Ukumori in his own remix of "Far East." He then glides smoothly through an unreleased gem onto the punchy, enticing rhythm of Emanuel Phaz's "Satisfy." Next, he turns the energy up a notch by moving into the gently rolling sounds of another unreleased track from Fanis and Emanuel Phaz. Keeping the texture of the mix silky smooth, DJ Tarkan works in Emanuel Phaz's remix of "Come Back" before settling into the Fanis and Emanuel Phaz remix of "Day Off." Working toward a close, he drops the delicate remix of "Digiboy" that he co-produced with his label partner V-Sag and then concludes with his own brilliant remix of "Past Recollection." DJ Tarkan has crafted this mix so skillfully that you may not have known it was recorded live!
