Tamiflu is not a replacement for vaccines. Early vaccination on an annual basis is recommended by the Centers for Disease Control’s Immunization Practices Advisory Committee unless vaccination is contraindicated, not available or not feasible.

Roche announced today that it has expanded its global manufacturing network for the production of Tamiflu to increase capacity for the product. The company ... announced that the manufacturing network will include several Roche sites and more than 15 external contractors, including Albemarle, in nine different countries.

Some news reports have indicated "shortages" of the product at retail, but Roche has special measures in place to ensure that Tamiflu is readily available. If a pharmacy runs low due to high demand during peak flu season, and they can't get product from their servicing wholesaler(s), they can call 800-526-0625 and have Tamiflu delivered within 24 hours.

[One] finding of the investigation revealed a correlation between a physician's years out of medical school and his or her rate of Tamiflu prescribing. Older, more experienced physicians, regardless of specialty, prescribed more Tamiflu than younger, more recently trained physicians.
