Tamiflu: Bird Flu

Tamiflu can do so much. It can only lessen the effects of bird flu that eventually weakens the virus internally and the body then recovers slowly. There is no shot available as yet to tackle the bird flu virus.

The World Health Organization says that two Egyptians were infected by a new strain of bird flu that is resistant to Tamiflu. They don't know how the strain developed, but noted that it is worrying as Tamiflu remains the primary protection against the H5N1 version of avian flu. Report

Roche today is announcing that it's cutting back production of Tamiflu. When bird flu stories and fears started reaching critical mass more than a year ago, Roche came under considerable criticism for not being able to make enough Tamiflu to meet the sudden spike in demand.
