"Tamagotchi created a whole new category in toys as the originator of the virtual pet concept," said Jim Silver, publisher of Toy Book and Toy Wishes magazines. "The launch of Tamagotchi Connection will bring excitement to the toy industry as the digital pet craze resurfaces with new innovative twists and improved technology as consumers begin looking for the hottest toy for the holiday shopping season."

The "History" menu, located in the "Family" section of your Tamagotchi® Connection® toy is a feature in the V4 and V4.5 toys that allows you to view the previous Tamagotchis® that unfortunately didn't survive under your previous care. This memorial will help you to remember those characters that have returned to Tamagotchi® Planet. Therefore, if you have been an excellent caregiver to your Tamagotchis®, then you should not have any characters to view here.

Version two of the Tamagotchi Connection series allows owners to play by linking up their virtual pets to their cell phones. These phones can be turned into a virtual Tamagotchi Planet, the pets' homeland. Messages can even be read from a parent who has returned to this planet.

Chances are you or someone you know has a Tamagotchi lying around in a junk drawer or shoebox somewhere. After all, there were about a billion of the little virtual pets sold in the late '90s. But the Tamagotchi phenomenon died as quickly as it started, leaving behind a lot of clunky key chains and a bit of filler for a VH1 clip show. Despite falling way off the radar, Tamagotchi is still around years later, now with a new generation of virtual pets called Tamagotchi Connection and a Nintendo DS game to match.

Infrared technology allows Tamagotchi Connection owners to become friends with other Tamagotchi owners and store a "friend list" of up to 50 friends. Once an adult, the Tamagotchi can connect with a compatible Tamagotchi friend and have a second-generation Tamagotchi that the owner can care for and nurture into an adult to create a possible third and fourth generation. With a larger display and better graphics than the original version, Tamagotchi Connection owners can care for their pet by selecting various controls to feed it food or a snack, play games with it, clean up after its messes and give it medicine when it becomes sick. The new Tamagotchi Connection will debut at retail on August 15, 2004 at a suggested retail price of $14.99.
