Tamagotchi Connection: Corner Shop is a quirky collection of minigames starring the cutely bizarre creatures from the Tamagotchi universe. Despite being based on the virtual pet license, Corner Shop is not actually a virtual pet game. When you start, you can choose one of three Tamagotchi to act as your partner, but the only difference between the three characters is the theme music, clothes, and the order in which all the shops are unlocked as you play. You and your partner can then go to work in various shops to earn gotchi points, which you can then use to purchase snacks, clothes, and furniture to "care" for your Tamagotchi. None of that is necessary though, since your Tamagotchi's response to these items has no effect whatsoever on the game. The entire care mode is just a very basic way for you to customize your game.

The Tamagotchi Plus and Tamagotchi Connection are slightly different versions of the Tamagotchi virtual pet. Tamagotchi first exploded in popularity when Bandai launched the product in 1996, selling more than 40 million units worldwide and 12 million units in the United States and Canada. Not only did Tamagotchi spur a pop culture phenomenon, but the product itself created a new toy category and prompted countless virtual pet imitators. During its peak, 15 Tamagotchi units were sold every minute in the U.S and Canada. The new Tamagotchi Connection is on track to replicate that success starting in Japan where the first product on the shelf sold out in two days.

The original Tamagotchi virtual pet, a hit with kids of all ages, is now updated and even more interactive. The Tamagotchi Connection still has the features that made the original so popular- it’s a portable, interactive, and stylish pet that responds to the “parenting” it receives from its owner. However, the new Tamagotchi Connection now has infrared technology that allows it to communicate and make friends with other Tamagotchis (known as "Tamacom"), playing games, visiting, exchanging presents and even getting married! The Tamagotchi Connection features a larger screen display (roughly twice the pixels of the original) and enhanced graphics on the screen display.

Tamagotchi Connection was first launched in 1996, and was considered an overnight success. Later in 2004, Bandai America re-introduced the Tamagotchi Connection in the US and Canada, and there has been no looking back since then. In 2005, Tamagotchi Connection went ahead to become one of the most coveted toys by both boys and girls alike.
